Officer Maintains Composure While Being Shot At During High-Speed Chase

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) recently released dashcam footage from an intense high-speed chase that occurred on April 2nd, 2022.

OHP was notified earlier that day by an agency located in Sedona, AZ to be on the lookout for a black SUV fleeing from an armed robbery incident. As shown in the dashcam footage, OHP Trooper Brack Miller was the first trooper to make contact with the vehicle, where he attempted a traffic stop. The suspect ignored the pursuing troopers lights and accelerated to dangerously high speeds.

After several minutes, the suspect began firing through their rear window directly at Trooper Miller. Despite the hostile situation, Trooper Miller maintained his composure, stayed in the intense chase, and ultimately made a successful pit maneuver. Although the body camera footage has not been released at this time, official reports have stated that shortly after Trooper Miller disabled the vehicle, the suspect exited the SUV with a rifle, where an intense gun battle began.

Troopers eventually overcame the suspect with superior gunfire, ultimately killing the man. Two Troopers were injured during the incident; however they are expected to make a full recovery. The suspect was later identified as 32-year-old Charles Carswell. Additional footage regarding the shootout has not been released yet due to an ongoing investigation.
