Suspect Dual-Wields Handguns in Shootout With Cop

This combination of bodycam and dashcam footage, sent in from Moses Lake, Washington, shows a suspect opting for volume of fire over accuracy as he engages an MLPD Sergeant in a gunfight.

The suspect, 37-year old Zachary Stockton, had threatened his girlfriend with a gun during a dispute, and had initially locked himself in the motel room shown. After a brief attempt at negotiation, the police are shown backing away from the door, putting ample space between themselves and Stockton. Negotiations continue from cover as the suspect debates with the Sergeant over whether he'll be shot upon exiting the room. The Sergeant does an admittedly noble job of trying to put everyone's safety first, even mentioning his own family. However, Stockton isn't having it.

He emerges at 02:26, firing at the Sergeant. The Sergeant's bodycam shows him backpedaling for cover while returning fire. During this exchange, he takes a round through the foot. The return fire from the Sergeant and his partner strikes Stockton in the hand. At 02:57, Stockton is shown already in a prone and surrendering position. The Sergeant does a frankly fantastic job of remaining calm and radioing for assistance, both parties having been shot.

At 03:21, we see the firefight from the police cruiser's dash cam, which captures Stockton's actions as he fires on the Sergeant with a pistol in each hand. He very casually backs up as he dumps rounds, tossing down the pistol in his left as it empties and continuing to fire with the right. At 03:44, he tosses down the other pistol and takes a prone position.

Both parties received treatment at an area hospital for their injuries, and no other parties were harmed. Stockton faces charges for three counts of 1st Degree Assault, one count of 2nd, and unlawful possession of a firearm- in total, a fairly light sentence for willfully trying to kill someone (and, in all likelihood, be killed).
