(NSFW) Suspect With Revolver Tries State Trooper and Loses

This short bodycam video depicts a New York State Trooper confronting the driver of a vehicle which the officer had been pursuing. As the trooper closes to arrest the driver, the driver draws a revolver and fires, then promptly loses the gunfight. Viewer discretion is advised.

Trooper Caito had been in pursuit of a car which struck a guard rail, jumped a curb and came to rest in a field. The trooper exits his vehicle at 00:26 to arrest the driver. He orders the driver to stay in the car, but the driver, later identified as 35-year-old Daniel Legler, refuses to comply. Caito warns Legler that he will release the K9 if he does not stop. At 01:05, he further warns Legler that he is “at gunpoint,” then speeds up to close with Legler and demands to see his hands, drawing his TASER at 01:28.

The two struggle on the ground as Caito attempts to cuff Legler. At 01:50, Legler draws a revolver and fires, prompting the trooper to backpedal while firing five times. He fires again at 02:15 as Legler refuses to get on the ground. Legler was pronounced dead on-scene and cocaine was found in his system. This video serves to illustrate just how quickly a suspect can produce a concealed weapon, turning hands-on into a gunfight. Fortunately for Trooper Caito, Legler was neither fast nor accurate enough.
