(NSFW) Chicago Police Dump 96 Rounds in 41 Seconds Into Suspect And Car

This footage, released by the Chicago Sun-Times, shows Chicago Police attempting to extract 26-year-old suspect Dexter Reed from his vehicle. This incident apparently stemmed from a seatbelt violation. Regardless of cause, the video shows Reed shooting an officer, at which point the five cops on-scene dump almost 100 rounds into Reed and his vehicle in seconds. Viewer discretion is advised.

This case is a source of heated debate and protest in Chicago, as investigation is underway to determine whether the use of five officers to detain Reed over a purported seatbelt violation constituted excessive force. Be that as it may, an officer is shown being shot by Reed's opening salvo, which definitely escalated the situation to a deadly force incident. Between the officers, almost 100 rounds are fired at Reed and his vehicle in just shy of a minute. The shot officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries to their forearm, while Reed was pronounced dead upon transport to a local hospital. Reed's handgun was located in his vehicle.

Initial coverage of this incident did not immediately disclose that Reed fired first, but his family and their attorneys have questions that range from the valid- such as why several officers in unmarked cars were needed to enforce a seatbelt violation- to the ignorant and inane, questioning why officers "added clips to their guns after he was shot up."
