A short montage of a Ukrainian unit in the trenches. Sorry about the music - not our choice. The video opens with a squad riding atop an APC in the snow, before transitioning to the view behind the sights of a machine gun. We are granted a brief view of the trench itself – a few soldiers by a small fire, a spare ammunition can for the PKM, extra rifle magazines neatly stacked, anti-tank rockets staged and ready to deploy. We then see a few angry bursts from the PKM followed by a chaotic shuffle, and finally are granted a brief glimpse of the no-man’s-land forward of the trench. The video ends with the view from the rear doors of an APC, the mud and destruction of the modern battlefield. Beyond offering a Ukrainian unit’s perspective of life and combat in the trenches, the video also shows us a few details of Ukrainian trench life. Their positions seemed well built, orderly, and prepared for a fight, compared to footage we have seen of Russian trenches which are littered with trash and the detritus of combat. The impression is of units that are disciplined and well led.
