A Ukrainian T-80BV engages Russian positions across a field, concealed in a tree line. The tank pushes forward through the trees, and several flashes can be seen in the distance. The gunner aims and fires. A drone perspective shows the something in the Russian lines that reacts very poorly to large bullets.

The T-80BV is an earlier variant of the T-80 platform that went into production in the mid-80s. The T-80 was developed from the earlier T-64, which was produced in Ukraine, and some older variants remained in Ukraine when the Soviet Union dissolved in the early 90s. Later Russian variants have also been captured by Ukraine. With all the publicity focused on western tanks like the Leopard, Soviet-era and captured Russian tanks make up the bulk of Ukraine’s armored forces, and it appears that they are put to good use.
