This footage, captured via drone, shows the harrowing moment when a Russian soldier sets off an IED, killing himself and another Russian. While the Russian that triggers the explosion is killed instantly, his comrade is not nearly as fortunate. Viewer discretion is not only advised, but practically mandatory- this is difficult to watch.

The device is visible above ground, just to the left of center- more or less straight above the disabled tank. Three Russian soldiers appear to have a quick conversation- perhaps too quick- about what to do with it before two of them approach it. The first one to arrive picks it up with zero protection, and dooms them both.

Amid the shrapnel, fragments and gore, his mangled body is thrown to the left of frame. At bottom right, the surving third Russian flees, while the second man at the IED kicks, flails and screams. His body and nervous system are rebelling against the shock and trauma, but in the end, the candle flame of his life shudders, gutters, and dies. He makes one last movement at 01:05.

And, hallmark and horror of this war and wars to come, the drone whirrs on, watching impassively.
