Body worn camera footage recorded on March 16, 2023, shows an officer from the North Miami Beach Police Department making a series of precision handgun shots around a hostage to stop an attacker who is holding a machete to the back of her head.

According to the police report, the officers had responded to a call for service about an erratic man armed with a machete. Shortly after officers arrived at the scene of the incident, the uncooperative suspect ran inside of the nearby building taking a woman hostage. The officers attempted to negotiate with the man for several minutes until he gave them an opening to use lethal force against him.
