This civilian-captured clip shows an explosive-laden drone coming in just above the waters of the Mediterranean Sea near Israel’s port city of Acre (also called Akko). Despite such a low altitude, it is still swatted out of the sky by Iron Dome missiles, which demonstrates the versatility and dependability of the system.

Given the numerous examples of attacks and their frequency, one tends to associate the Iron Dome with higher-altitude intercepts. This line of thinking is probably what led to this low-level effort by Hezbollah in Lebanon- and yes, I’m referring to altitude and efficacy. After all, “hit them where they’re not looking” is a tenet as old as strategy itself. However, the Iron Dome proves perfectly capable of handling the nap-of-the-earth flying drone just as easily as missiles lobbed in. As the shrapnel and fragments scatter over the Mediterranean, the effort itself gets thrown on the ever-growing pile of malice, forethought, and Iranian hardware spent to achieve very little.
