"White Helmets" Get Rocketed While Extinguishing Blaze

Helmet cam footage from the controversial humanitarian aid group the "White Helmets" reportedly shows a firefighting team come under indirect artillery or rocket fire while trying to extinguish a burning automobile struck in an earlier attack.

According to the group, a civilian electrical maintenance vehicle was blown up and two civilians were killed. As the White Helmets attempted to put the fire out, additional munitions fell in the vicinity of Hazwan village, east of Aleppo, injuring one of the team members. The White Helmets claimed the munitions came either from the US-backed SDF or the Russian-backed Assad regime.

Controversy surrounds the White Helmets, who operate inside rebel-controlled areas of Syria. The group overtly gives medical aid to those injured in the fighting and airstrikes, including rebel fighters. However, Russia and the Syrian government claim they are nothing more than rebels in disguise, using ambulances and other emergency vehicles to deliver weapons and supplies to insurgent groups cross the battlefield.

While the White Helmets have posted a number of astonishing videos over the years, documenting legitimate Russian and Syrian airstrikes on civilians, they have also submitted some questionable videos that appear to have been staged.
