A tank with the 1st Marine Tank Battalion in Hue City shrugs off a direct hit from Vietcong forces as the Marines move through the city. This is footage from the birthplace of Military Operations in Urban Terrain.

Generally speaking, I don't post historical footage all that often. You guys don't seem to dig it, even though I have hundreds of hours of footage from from the 1st Gulf War, Vietnam, Korea, and World War 2 that I could publish here for everyone. Regardless, this is one that I wanted to share because I saw it striking up quite the conversation on some other platforms that are out there.

The Battle of Huế City occurred from January to March of 1968. It is widely believed to be the birthplace of modern Military Operation in Urban Terrain, otherwise known as MOUT. The fighting here saw 11 battalions of ARVN fighters, 4 battalions of Soldiers, 3 battalions of Marines, and even the U.S. air force fighting against 10 PAVN and VC battalions for close to three months.

This piece of footage was recorded with the 1st Marine Tank Battalion. The footage cuts slightly towards the beginning, but you'll notice that the tank took a direct hit from some sort of explosive device. The tank reverses out of the position it is taking fire in, and then appears to entirely shrug the hit off as it gets itself back into the fight. Unfortunately, due to the timeframe this video was recorded, sound is not included as the equipment to record sound was separate from the equipment required to film video at the time.
