Video: Navy Seizes Massive Iranian Shipment Of Illegal Arms To Yemen

On May 6, 2021, the US Navy's guided missile destroyer USS Monterey intercepted a massive shipment of illicit arms being sent by the Iranian government to the Shia Houthi rebels in Yemen.

The shipment included thousands of new Chinese-made Kalashnikov-style rifles, hundreds of sniper rifles (to include heavy anti material rifles), hundreds of light machine guns, hundreds of RPG launchers, as well as Russian-made anti tank missiles and ammunition.

The US Coast Guardsmen and Sailors found the weapons aboard a stateless traditional Middle Eastern-style stateless ship. The crew of the ship were questioned by 5th Fleet and released. Iran is continuing to arm and equip the Houthis in violation of a UN arms embargo on Yemen. Iran has yet to officially comment on the seizure, but will likely deny responsibility.
