A 61-year-old man in Krivoy Rog, Ukraine, detonated a grenade while surrounded by police and national guardsmen, resulting in the rapid loss of his leg on Aug. 8, 2021.

According to reports, the man called the police, claimed he had a grenade at his specified location and then hung up. Local police units and national guardsmen responded to the scene. Authorities first tried talking the man down and then attempted to wrestle the grenade from him.

However, the disturbed man was able to pull the pin and drop the explosive device. The responding authorities scattered to a safe distance just in time. The blast blew the man's leg off and he was taken to a hospital for treatment.
