Tank Violently Erupts After ATGM Rips the Turret Off

A Syrian tank has its turret violently ripped off right after it's completely engulfed in flames following an ATGM strike by the Free Syrian Army.

Videos like this never cease to amaze me. The sheer destructive power of anti-tank guided missile systems is something that will be talked about in history for the rest of time. After World War One, it was widely accepted that the country with the strongest tanks would win the next war. Leading up to and throughout World War 2 there was a race to see which country could design the most technologically superior armored behemoth. In Korea and Vietnam, even after the advent of nuclear weapons, this trend continued.

When the ATGM was introduced to warfare however, the face of it changed entirely. Now, it's no longer a race to build the better tank itself. It's about building tank armor systems that can withstand the devastating power of weapon systems like the 9k111 Fagot and the BGM-71 TOW. Modern tanks have been outfitted with better and better armor, and even still the ATGM race has continued to advance in order to defeat the armored capabilities of our adversaries.

If these weapon systems had existed during the Second World War, who knows what the face of conflict would like today.
