Pranks are the beating heart of commando humor, and this is a shining example of how pranks come together with dark humor to make truly hilarious things happen.

Commando humor is defined as dark humor between Soldiers usually involving death or the threat of death. For as long as there has been war, and for as long as there has been Soldiers, there has been commando humor. It's a style of coping that every warfighter has gone through, a rite of passage if you will, that enables the individual Soldier to live in a world where death could be waiting for them around every corner.

At the very center of commando humor is pranks. Pranks are played on one another almost daily when you're in a combat environment, and no individual is safe from these pranks. If you're a lowly Private, a Platoon Commander, or the leader of a Regimental Combat Team, you are not safe from having a prank pulled on you. This video contains one of the classic pranks of modern warfare, and that's tossing a frag grenade at your buddy to scare the absolute living hell out of him.
