SDHP Officers Exchange Gunfire With Suspect In Car

Body camera footage released by the San Diego Harbor Police Department, shows a critical incident that unfolded after a 29-year-old male subject drew a firearm on multiple police officers while he requested "assistance" with his vehicle.

On April 10th, 2022, at approximately 1:30 p.m., officers observed a male subject parked out infront of San Diego Harbor Police Headquarters walking up to the buildings callbox. The man refused to provide further information with what he needed help with, so two officers were dispatched to the front entrance with caution. As shown in the body camera footage, the responding officer asks if he needed to speak with police and the man quickly responded with "yes" as he drew a firearm.

Officers commanded the male suspect several times to drop the weapon; however the man refused to comply, forcing officers to engage the male suspect. At the time of this writing, the male suspect was labeled in critical condition, after he was rendered medical aid and transported to an area hospital.

During a later investigation, a weapon was recovered from the suspects’ vehicle. Official police statements note that during the investigation, the weapon was recovered with a round in the chamber, and another expended round stuck in the barrel. The man was later identified as Eric Medina of San Ysidro.
