Russian Marines from the Naval Ship Vice-Admiral Kulakov boarded the container ship MSC Lucia after the ship was attacked by pirates in the Gulf of Guinea.

While the Marines, who deployed via the helicopter of the Vice-Admiral Kulakov, were too late to prevent the pirates from disembarking from the ship and escaping, they were able to send a strong message to the pirates with their swift action.

Several days after this incident, another ship was attacked by pirates who the Russian Ministry of Defense believe are the same group of individuals. “We are assessing it as highly likely that the recent attack and possible kidnapping from the OSV Montet Tide was perpetuated by the same individuals.” Russian Security expert Dryad Global said in a press briefing on the topic.
