Phoenix Police Release Officer-Involved Shooting Body Cam Footage

The Phoenix Police Department released body cam footage from multiple cameras showing an officer-involved shooting on Oct. 20, 2020, in which two brothers were killed during a tense standoff situation.

Officer responded to a 911 call in which a woman claimed to have barricaded herself in her room out of fear that her son, Emmett Cocreham, 44, would hurt or kill her. The police had previously responded to her house multiple times in the past because of Emmett and her other son George Cocreham, 43.

The woman warned the 911 operator that her sons would try to attack the officers and also warned the officers when they arrived on the scene. The officers could hear angry yelling when they arrived and were able to identify one of the men with a gun, so they called for backup.

A standoff ensued and the brothers, now both armed, ignored officers' commands to comply. Eventually, one of the brothers, George, stepped out of the back door and pointed the rifle at Emmett and the officers. Two officers fired their patrol carbines at George. Evidence indicates George also fired one round from his rifle. Both George and Emmett were struck during the shootings. Fire personnel pronounced Emmett deceased at the scene, and George died at the hospital.
