Paratrooper Becomes Towed Jumper As Static Line Fails

A short but wild clip shows one of the most nightmarish situations in airborne operations... the towed jumper.

This situation occurs when the jumper's static line fails to deploy his 'chute, and instead drags the jumper behind the aircraft. The jumpmasters now have a few options to free the paratrooper. One of those options is NOT landing with the jumper still being towed, because he would be dragged along the tarmac and killed. Instead, they may try to pull him back into the fuselage of the aircraft by hand. Since the towed jumper is still conscious, they may actually just cut the static line and hop he paid attention well-enough during pre-jump training to remember to pop his reserve parachute. Knees in the breeze!
