Officer Nearly Shot During Intense Struggle With Armed Felon (NSFW)

Intense body worn camera footage, shows the moments officers from the Cleveland Police Department struggle to detain an armed felon, who nearly shoots an officer in the head.

On September 17th, 2021, officers from the Cleveland Division of Police pulled up to a local gas station, where they attempted to arrest a man on multiple outstanding felony warrants. The suspect, identified as Jesus Rivera, had outstanding warrants of the following; obstructing justice, felony assault with a knife, and aggravated robbery. As shown in the multi-perspective footage, officers entered the gas station with tasers drawn.

Within a split second, Rivera began resisting arrest and attempted to flee the officers custody. During the struggle, officers continued commanding Rivera to remove his hands from underneath himself, however he refused. Unbeknown to the officers, Rivera was holding a firearm. After about three minutes, responding officers spotted the firearm. Shortly after shouting he was armed, Rivera fired a single round, nearly striking an officer in the head.

As indicated by the audio, multiple officers are heard stating they can no longer hear. Due to the nature of the incident, being that close to a firearm discharging in a closed area definitely has severe side effects if you have no ear protection on. After the shot was fired, officers were finally successful in removing the firearm and detaining Rivera.

In connection to this incident, Rivera is now facing additional felony charges. The following charges presented are; Six counts of felonious assault with a firearm, one count of weapons under disability, one count of carrying a concealed weapon and one count of resisting arrest.

Aside from tinnitus, no officers were injured during this incident. All responding officers were sent to an area hospital but were released shortly after.
