Officer Involved Shooting With Potentially Armed 13-Year-Old Suspect

Published April 15, 2021

On March 29, 2021, Officers engaged in a foot chase with armed 13-year-old Adam Toledo in Little Village Chicago, Illinois.

The Officer in the footage, catching up to Adam at the fence bordering the alley way yells "Show me your [email protected]#ing hands". A split second later the Officer yells out "Drop it! Drop it!" before taking a single shot into Adam Toledo.

Shot in the upper chest, Toledo later succumbed to his wound.

It seems as though when the Officer catches up, Adam begins fumbling around in his hoodie pocket just before turning around. Although body cam footage is helpful in most cases, its still very difficult to tell what actually happened. As Toledo raised his hands, its near impossible to tell whether or not a fire arm is in his grasp. As an Officer in the first-person, could he have seen something the body cam does not show? Quite possibly. However, we do know that there was a fire arm dropped by Toledo after the shot was taken.
