On May 7, 2021 a Phoenix Police Department Sergeant radioed dispatch after he had been shot at by an erratic driving vehicle.

Dispatch informed officers that the suspect's car had already been used in an armed robbery earlier that night in Glendale as they pursued the suspect. After a short car chase, the suspects vehicle was brought to a halt after Phoenix officers successfully utilized the grappler device.

With the successful use of the grappler device, officers surround the suspect who is now armed with a shotgun. Being warned multiple times to drop the weapon, the suspect refused to abide and was shot multiple times. Additional officers on the scene maneuver to the passenger side of the vehicle and removed the shotgun from the car.

Upon removing the weapon, officers began providing medical treatment the suspect, later identified as 34-year-old Dustin E. Weaver. Weaver was treated for his wounds and transported to a local medical facility where he is currently recovering from his injuries.
