Off Duty Officer Discharges Firearm, Accidently Injuring Himself

A 25-year veteran police officer from Kentucky, later identified as Darryl Jouett accidentally shot himself after struggling to holster his weapon. Jouett was an active police officer of the Elanger Police Department, KY but was currently in Cincinnati, OH with his wife when this incident occurred.


The footage displays Jouett and his wife entering an elevator. For whatever reason, Jouett draws his firearm, seconds after the elevator door closes. Only having the weapon drawn for a few seconds, he begins fumbling with the weapon in an attempt to holster it.


Jouett accidentally discharges his firearm a single time. The round ricocheted off the floor of the elevator, striking Jouett in the stomach region. Jouett was rushed to the hospital, where he made a recovery from his gunshot wound.
