Off-Duty Cop Jumps From Second Story Window While Responding Officers Shoot Perp

A critical incident released by the New York Police Department shows the moments an off-duty NYPD officer threw herself from a second story window as officers engage her armed, aggressive husband.

On September 14th, 2021, dispatch received a 9-1-1 call from an off-duty officer stating her husband armed himself with her service weapon and was threatening to kill her. At approximately 8:40 a.m., officers arrived in the area, where they were immediately met by gunfire.

Responding officers backed away from the residence and called in the specially trained emergency service unit to clear the residence. For some time, negotiators and the suspect's brother attempted to de-escalate the situation. As shown in the body camera and CCTV footage, special unit officers located the off-duty officer near the rear of the home, in a second story window. Law enforcement convinced the officer to jump from the window, where she reportedly broke her leg. Seconds after, the husband appeared the amse window, still armed with the weapon.

In response, two officers engaged the suspect, striking him in the arm. Shortly after, the suspect surrendered and was treated for his non-life-threatening injuries. Both individuals were hospitalized, and their identities have not been released.
