A patrol of Turkish Soldiers is caught completely flat-footed by members of the PKK. Their immediate reaction is to attempt to flee into cover, however no cover is anywhere near them as they are gunned down.

The immediate action drill for a near-ambush is to plant your feet in the direction of the enemy and return overwhelming, superior fire. The reason that is the case, is because when a near ambush is sprung on you, chances are you are exactly where the enemy wants you at the time. The only way their ambush can work, is if you do exactly what they expect you to do in that situation, which is get to cover. That's why, when ambushed at close range, the best maneuver you can do is plant your feet and return fire with everything you've got.
