Street surveillance video shows the Apr. 19, 2021 incident in which a Guatemalan carjacking was thwarted by an armed bodyguard.

Reports indicate that Guatemalan congressman Aldo Dávila was riding in a vehicle that was targeted for robbery by three armed criminals. The thugs rapidly approached the vehicle as it was sitting at a traffic light near Guatemala’s National Library in Guatemala City. Two of the carjackers can be seen approaching the driver's side door, and the third moves to the passenger side.

Dávila's bodyguard opens fire on the suspects from the driver's seat, incapacitating one of the criminals. The other two scatter. The body guards then exit the vehicle to secure the area.

Local news sources speculated on the possibility that Dávila was being targeted based on his sexuality, as he is reportedly Guatemala's first openly gay congressman. However, it isn't clear what the criminals' motives were or if they even knew the vehicle belonged to the politician.
