(NSFW) Suspect Leads Officers Into Deadly CQB Crossfire Situation

The Houston Police Department (HPD) released aerial and body camera footage from an intense police chase which ended in a fatal officer involved shooting. On November 11th, 2021, at approximately 11:24 a.m., Harris County deputies attempted a traffic stop on a shooting suspect, identified as 42-year-old Elliott Lewis. Law enforcement officers attempted the traffic stop at the intersection of Holcombe Boulevard and Cambridge Street, however Lewis refused, forcing high-speed vehicle pursuit.

After several miles, HPD SWAT officers successfully boxed Lewis into a parking lot. As shown in the aerial footage, Lewis stopped and exited his vehicle, armed with what appears to be a AR platform weapon. In response, two HPD SWAT officers and four Harris County deputies engaged Lewis, neutralizing him instantaneously.

Moments after the shooting, law enforcement officers removed the weapon from Lewis' person and rendered medical aid until paramedics arrived on scene. Lewis succumbed to his gunshot wounds, and was later pronounced deceased at the scene. An innocent bystander was also injured during the shooting when a ricochet hit his ankle. No law enforcement officers were injured during the shooting.
