(NSFW) SDCSD Deputy Shoots Armed Man Hallucinating on Drugs

Published 1 years ago

On September 28th, 2021, deputies from the San Diego County Sheriff's Department (SDCSD) engaged in an intense standoff and deputy involved shooting, after a man, armed with what appeared to be a rifle, began aiming his weapon directly at responding deputies.

At approximately 12:30 p.m., a 9-1-1 caller reported a man outside of his vehicle, stabbing his tires at the 7-eleven located in the 1500 block of North Santa Fe Avenue. The caller additionally mentioned, the man appeared to be on drugs, more specifically methamphetamine. Upon the deputies arrival, the suspect fled the area on foot.

Roughly thirty minutes later, deputies made contact with the suspect a short distance from the 7-eleven, in the 1500 block of Kiva Lane. Upon arriving in the area, deputies noticed suspicious activity from the suspect, after he entered a small shed located near the back of the residence. Shortly after re-emerging, deputies observed the suspect, now armed with what appeared to be a long rifle.

Deputies immediately began commanding the suspect to drop the weapon, however the man continued to ignore them. During the deputy confrontation, the suspect ultimately pointed his firearm at deputies, causing a deputy involved shooting. After neutralizing the suspect, deputies approached cautiously and removed the firearm from his possession.

The suspect, later identified as 20-year-old Omar Rojas, was transported to a local medical facility where he was treated for his injuries. After a further investigation, the weapon was identified as pellet rifle. No deputies were injured during this incident.
