The Wellington Police Department has released body worn camera footage of an officer involved shooting involving a man advancing with a knife towards law enforcement officials.

According to the Wellington Police Department, officers had responded to this address 19 times since October of 2021 to work with a person going through a mental crisis. On July 23 at 6:16 PM, they once again responded to this address after neighbors reported that they heard breaking glass next door. At 6:26 PM, a female officer who responded to the call requested backup when the man in the home was reported throwing objects at the officers, including a table. A minute later, the man came storming out of the house with a knife. A Taser was deployed, but it failed to subdue the suspect.

The suspect, 37-year-old Scott Baker, was then shot by another responding officer. An ambulance was immediately called and the officers began rendering life-saving aid to Baker. Once EMS arrived, a LifeFlight was put into motion to get Baker to the Metro Health Medical Center in Cleveland. Baker was later reported to be in stable in condition. No officers or civilians were hurt and the officers involved have been placed on administrative leave pending an external investigation.
