(NSFW) Officer Takes Point Blank Headshot And Still Manages To Outgun Suspect

On September 21, 2021, an officer from the Dayton Police Department was dispatched to a Dollar General, after a man reportedly passed a counterfeit bill. Upon arriving in the area, the responding officer received information regarding the suspect and began searching the surrounding area for him.

Shortly after patrolling the area, the suspect was located in the 600-block of Ingram Street, where the responding officer exited his vehicle and began approaching the man. As the officer approached, he began commanding the suspect to stop, however instead, the man dropped his possessions and began physically assaulting the officer. With his taser already prepped, the officer discharged a non-lethal shot into the man, further subduing him.

While on the ground, the suspect managed to retrieve his concealed firearm, where he then discharged a single round, striking the officer in the side of the head. Now wounded, the officer fell backward and drew his firearm, where he discharged his service weapon and struck the suspect multiple times. As shown in the footage, the officer was losing a substantial amount of blood, however he maintained his bearing and waited for additional units to arrive to fully apprehend the suspect.

The wounded officer was immediately transported to an area hospital where he was labeled in stable condition. The suspect was provided medical aid on the scene and was later transported to an area hospital in critical condition. The suspect has since been charged with two counts of felony assault on a police officer, carrying a concealed weapon, weapons under disability, and counterfeiting.

Update: A friend of the officer reached out to us on Facebook and let us know that he was released from the hospital a few days after the shooting.
