The Buena Park Police Department (BPPD) recently released dashcam and body worn camera footage regarding a critical incident that occurred on September 3rd, 2021. The footage provided shows the moments BPPD Officers engaged in a high-speed chase with the suspect, identified as 60-year-old Cedric Baxter, which ultimately led to an intense officer involved shooting.

Prior to the critical incident, a patrolling officer observed Baxter ramming his vehicle into a school bus, exiting his SUV, then firing shots at the school bus driver. Baxter reentered his SUV, where officers immediately began pursuit in a high-speed chase, dangerously through a residential area.

The vehicle chase ultimately concluded after Baxter rammed a locked gate to gain entrance to the parking lot of the Buena Park School District located at 6885 Orangethorpe Ave. As officers and Baxter entered the school district bus garage, he smashed his vehicle into a parked car, disabling his vehicle. Two officers immediately began firing numerous shots, striking Baxter.

Baxter and the two officers exchanged multiple shots, however the officer gun fire overwhelmed Baxter. After responding officers successfully neutralized Baxter, they began rendering life-saving medical, however; Baxter succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

No officers or incident bystanders were injured during this incident.
