(NSFW) Car Jacking Suspect Shot After Reaching for Airsoft Pistol

Video released by the Freemont Police Department shows an encounter with a car-jacking suspect that ends in an officer involved shooting after the suspect reaches for an airsoft pistol concealed in his waste-band.

On April 13, 2023, officers from the Freemont and Newark Police Departments responded to a 9-1-1 call about a car-jacking that occurred at knife point. They confront the suspect in a parking lot and ask him to step out of the vehicle. The officers maintain lethal force options on the suspect as he gets out of the vehicle, and spot the pistol in his waste-band as he approaches.

During the communication between the suspect and officers, they tell the suspect to put his hands in the air. It appears as if the suspect misinterprets this command and instead he reaches for the pistol. As he is reaching for the gun, officers discharge their duty weapons.

It was later discovered that the pistol was an airsoft replica of an M9 Beretta. The suspect was transported to a nearby medical facility where he was pronounced deceased.
