(NSFW) Armed Suspect Killed After Refusing to Comply and Reaching For Pistol

Published April 19, 2021

On March 29, 2021, Rampart Area Officers spotted an armed suspect walking down an alley way. When approached by the Officers, they call out to the suspect numerous times to drop the weapon.

The suspect who was later identified as Matthew Blaylock, continued to deny he had a fire arm on him as Officers followed him.

Shortly after the initial encounter, Blaylock began fleeing the Officers on foot. As the foot chase begins, one Officer radios over for air support to maintain a vantage point on Blaylock as he attempted to flee. During this time, Blaylock attempts to retrieve the firearm from his pants.

Only a few blocks later the foot chase is brought to a halt when Blaylock trips, dropping the firearm within arms reach of him. With his pants around his ankles, Officers state multiple times "Don't reach for it", "Don't reach for the f***ing gun", and "You're gonna get shot if you reach for it".

Crawling on the ground, Blaylock attempts tp grab the firearm, when he is kicked by the second Officer. Failing to disarm him with the kick, both Officers escalate the threat level and take action to stop the suspect. Seven shots can be heard after Blaylock retrieved his firearm.

Blaylock was taken away to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his wounds.

If an Officer has reasonable cause, and in this case a visualization of a firearm, why would Blaylock attempt to flee? Did Blaylock know he was caught with his pants around his ankles? Regardless, that statement became literal towards the end of the foot chase... Let us know what you think in the comments below.
