(NSFW) 109 Shots Fired, Striking Armed Carjacker After He Shoots At Officers

Recent body camera footage released by the Denver Police Department, shows a fatal officer involved shooting, involving an armed carjacking suspect, which occurred on May 14th, 2021.


After receiving five 911 calls at around 4:15 p.m., of a man erratically waving a firearm and shooting at bystanders. That man, was later identified as 22-year-old Cedrick Vick. In response DPD officers were dispatched to the 4400 block of Morrison Road in the Westwood neighborhood. While arriving in the area, officers were confronted by a woman who had stated she was held at gunpoint, while her toddler was in the back of the car.


Luckily, Vick allowed the woman to retrieve her child from the vehicle. The woman additionally told officers, upon retrieving her child, Vick pointed his firearm at them and discharged it. After speeding through stop signs and intersections, responding DPD officers located Vick, and began pursuing the vehicle at a high rate of speed. While in pursuit, Vick leaned out from the stolen vehicle, where he began firing shots at DPD officers.


Four minutes into the pursuit, Vick crashed the stolen car into a retaining wall, where he is seen stuck in the vehicle due to the deployment of airbags. While acting erratically within the car, DPD officers began commanding Vick to stop reaching, however he did not comply. Still located in the car, Vick eventually gained possession of a loaded firearm, where he then began firing multiple shots at the officers. As a result, nine DPD officers began firing at Vick, striking him multiple times. Vick was pronounced deceased at the scene.


The following information is respective to the nine officers and the total shots each fired:
Joshua Catlett, 20 rounds;
Justin Kennedy, 18 rounds;
Shane Madrigal, 19 rounds;
John McAndrews, 15 rounds;
Eduardo Medero, 8 rounds;
Maneechot Phanpaktra, 5 rounds;
John Schaal, 12 rounds;
John Silva, 6 rounds;
Jesse Trudel, 6 rounds.


Denver District Attorney Beth McCann later stated the officers were legally justified because Vick posed an immediate threat.
