On Tuesday, the Harris County Sheriff's Office released video footage from an officer-involved shooting on March 17, 2021, that resulted in the death of Matthew Hurlock, 35.
At 11:51 a.m., deputies were called to a convenience store in the 12900 block of Telge Road after a witness said Hurlock was bleeding and screaming in the parking lot.
As deputies arrived, they approached Hurlock on foot and ordered him to place his hands behind his back and remove the knife he was carrying. Hurlock disobeyed the orders and fled into the street, where deputies used a Taser to subdue him.
Two officers began struggling with Hurlock in the street, when a third officer attempted to provide assistance in detaining the suspect. As the officers continued to struggle, Hurlock broke free and began swinging his knife, attempting to harm them. In response to Hurlock's aggression, officers took multiple shots at Hurlock, striking him in various locations.
Hurlock was provided medical treatment on the scene until medical transport arrived. Hurlock was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his wounds.
