Islamic State Fighters Fleeing Habbaniyah Recreate Highway of Death

Coalition aircraft comprised of American and Iraqi fixed and rotary wing platforms conduct a series of airstrikes on Islamic State fighters fleeing combat on outskirts of Habbaniyah.

Recently declassified footage shows a series of joint airstrikes conducted by the United States and Iraqi Aviation Unit against fleeing Islamic State fighters in 2016. The fighters were fleeing an Iraqi ground operation to secure the city of Habbaniyah west of Fallujah. During their retreat, the United States, in coordination with Iraqi Air Support, conducted an operation to exploit the Islamic State fighters while they were funneled into one position. This enabled the total destruction of their forces by several aircraft effectively creating a second Highway of Death.
