Farmington Officers Neutralize Suspect After Multiple Shots Are Fired

On May 10, 2021, four officers with the Farmington Police Department opened fire on an armed suspect after dispatch received multiple calls about a man walking around downtown with a handgun and numerous shots being fired.


The footage provided shows the moment officers finally found their guy, 29-year-old Brian Benally, who was still armed with his firearm. At first glance, Benally appears to be walking away from the responding officers, but suddenly turned around with a gun pointed toward officers. Four of the officer quickly fired their weapons, neutralizing Benally.


Officers immediately began rendering first aid to Benally. If it weren't for the quick actions of the responding officers, someone could have been killed. Benally was last reported in stable condition and recovering in the hospital. He faces multiple charges including felony assault on an officer and possession of a firearm by a felon.
