Love him or hate him, you have to respect the early years of Dan Rather's career as a journalist. This footage was recorded way back in Vietnam, and shows Rather on the front-lines with American Troops.

Vietnam is nothing more than a blip in the career of Dan Rather. I'd just as soon not get into the specifics of the man's entire career, his political leanings, or any of the other controversies that might follow him around just because he worked in and works in modern Journalism.

Over the last decade, it's no secret that journalism has well and truly died. There are only a few journalists in the world today who are still doing honest journalism. An overwhelming majority of them however are bought and paid for by the political elites and will say whatever they need to say to ensure they make a profit off of their reporting.

This is a look back through time at what reporting once was. It's a look at a journalist in the field, actually in danger, doing his service to inform the people back home of the realities of the situation on the ground.

I wish it were still like this today.
