Crowbar Wielding Suspect Charges Officer Forcing Officer Involved Shooting

On May 10, 2021 A 25-year-old male who was later identified as Denny James Clark, was shot by West Valley City police after he charged at officers while wielding a crowbar.

At 1:30 a.m. a woman called 911 after a she was woke by her dog barking. As the woman looked out the window, she spotted Clark pulling a crowbar from the bed of a truck parked in the drive way. Clark, now approaching the home, took the crowbar and allegedly began smashing the window and attempted to kick the front door down.

WVCPD was dispatched to the area moments later, where three officers attempted to communicate with Clark to disarm himself. As heard in the footage, Clark continued to disobey officer commands, where he soon began charging at the officers with his weapon.

In an attempt to use non-lethal force, officers fired a taser at Clark, but it had no effect. Clark proceeded to make threatening comments toward the officers, where he would take one last charge at officers before being shot. Officers fired multiple shots, striking Clark and subduing him.

Officers provided medical aid to Clarks non-life threatening injuries until medical transport arrived. Clark was later booked and sent to Salt Lake County Jail. It is still under investigation whether the officers shooting was justified
