Could Drone Combat Sports Elevate Drone Warfare?

Members of the Drone Combat YouTube channel put on a timed display of their controllers firing lasers at simulated ground targets inside of a building. Could we see this escalated further?

An unforeseen consequence of commercial drones and drone sports is the rise in these platforms being more and more frequently used as weapon systems on the modern battlefield. Initially, we thought that drones would just make for a new form of reconnaissance platforms for larger militaries around the world. Unfortunately, that wasn't all these drones could be used for, as we've since seen them weaponized in a ton of different ways.

Now, we're seeing drone sports really start to pick up traction, which is absolutely fantastic for the hobbyist and enthusiasts in that community. My fear however is that eventually we could see these drones further weaponized and utilized in a more combat oriented role. It's truly unclear what the future of drone usage in combat will look like, but if this video is any indication, we're only just now starting to scratch the surface of what's possible.

Hopefully people way higher up the food chain in places like the Pentagon are paying attention to this stuff now. I mean, let's be real, most likely they aren't because they need to meet their woke quotas and ensure everyone has passed all of their annual training programs, but we can hope someone out there is paying attention.
