Correction Officers Shoot Inmate Dead During Violent Hostage Standoff

Police and corrections officers ended a violent hostage standoff at an Oklahoma City detention facility by shooting the armed hostage taker inmate to death on Mar. 27, 2021.

According to the reports, inmate Curtis Montrell Williams, 34, used an improvised shank or shiv to kidnap and repeatedly stab a jailer while also using the injured jailer's keys to release other inmates from their cells.

Eventually, a riot-hostage extraction team was assembled, composed of responding police officers and COs, and they entered the common area. At that point, Williams was holding a knife to the throat of the hostage jailer, and the officers acted quickly, shooting Williams dead and dragging the jailer to safety.

The injured jailer was taken to a hospital and treated for his injuries. Williams' family is suing the jail.
