Colombian Police Ambushed By "Bandits"

Footage shows Colombian policemen returning fire during an ambush against their unit while traversing the Ocaña-Aguachica road in the vicinity of Sanin Villa, in the mountainous region of northeastern Colombia.

The attack appears to have been targeted toward motorcycle policemen who can be seen lying in the prone next to their dumped bikes. The cameraman, possibly a contractor, was likely called in to haul the bikes out on the truck. There was no information provided regarding injuries among the police unit.

Although the signing of the 2016 peace accords with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) resulted in a significant decline in violence, there has been a spurt of violent crime in the past three years by non-State armed groups and criminal organizations, especially in these remote areas of the country.
