American Jet Shoots Down Turkish Drone in Syria

Cell phone video released by a Syrian civilian shows an incident that occurred today involving an American fighter jet and a weaponized Turkish Drone. According to the Pentagon, U.S. Forces were within 500 yards of the armed Turkish drone when the pilot brought it down.

In what is being called a "regrettable incident" by Pentagon press secretary Air Force Brig. Gen. Patrick Ryder, The U.S. military shot down an armed Turkish drone that was doing airstrikes around Hassakeh at about 7:30 a.m. local time. According to the reports, some of the Turkish strikes were inside a so-called American “restricted operating zone” that was about a kilometer away from where American troops were conducting their own operations.

More than a dozen calls were made to Turkish allies in an attempt to call off the airstrikes on account of the U.S. presence in the area, but when the drone re-entered the restricted area on a heading towards the U.S. positions a pair of F-16 fighter jets were deployed to bring the drone down in defense of the Americans.

Turkey has yet to comment on the situation, however it is worth noting that the American forces are working closely with Kurdish forces that Turkey sees as aligned with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, who are better known as the PKK terror organization.
