Video Released of Aggressive Russian Flybys on U.S. Destroyer

United States European Command has released video and photo documentation of the extremely aggressive and illegal simulated attacks on the USS Donald Cook that occurred multiple times over the course of Monday and Tuesday.

From the EUCOM release: “We have deep concerns about the unsafe and unprofessional Russian flight maneuvers. These actions have the potential to unnecessarily escalate tensions between countries, and could result in a miscalculation or accident that could cause serious injury or death. U.S. officials are using existing diplomatic channels to address the interactions, while the incidents are also being reviewed through U.S. Navy channels.”

In addition to the Su-24 Flanker flybys, a Russian KA-27 Helix hovered closely to the Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer USS Donald Cook (DDG 75), and appeared to be photographing the ship.

The U.S. sailors reported that the Russian Flankers were flying so low, they created a wake in the Baltic Sea. The Russian aircraft came within a ridiculous 30 feet of the destroyer.

I was able to enhance the photo to see the Russian pilot inside the Su-24. See the simulated attack runs in the video below.
