Amid escalating deadly violence in Afghanistan, one US troop was killed and another was wounded on Monday while conducting combat operations.
The identity of the fallen service member has yet to be released, likely pending the notification of the next of kin. The wounded troop was flown to the hospital at Bagram Airfield for treatment.
Several Afghan partner forces were killed and wounded in the fighting as well, according to the report. So far, the only further information given about the attack is that it occurred in eastern Afghanistan.
Deadly violence broke out across the embattled nation on Monday. Eight Rmanian troops were wounded in a vehicle borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) attack in Kandahar. Several Afghan police and civilians were killed by the explosion.
Meanwhile twin car bombs rocked Kabul, resulting in at least 25 dead. This attack was carried out by the Islamic State Khorasan Province (the ISIS affiliate operating in the Afghan/Pak region).
After the first explosion, reporters rushed to the scene, at which point a second device was detonated. At least nine journalists were killed in the attack, including Shah Marai, a photographer with French news agency AFP.
