Syrian rebels can’t defeat an armored bulldozer directly on top of their position. Sure looks like they wish they had some anti-armor assets available.
An armored bulldozer from the Syrian Arab Army advances on Free Syrian Army fighters near Darayya, Syria. The rebel fighters desperately attempt to disable the vehicle using their rifles and hand grenades, with no effect. I bet they’re really wishing they hadn’t wasted all of those free TOW missiles right now.
This is what happens when you waste your limited anti-armor assets on soft targets of opportunity. You end up with an armored bulldozer driving directly up to your position uncontested, and knocking your positions down, while you’re still in them.
It probably seemed like a great idea at the time, but firing a TOW missile at a single infantry soldier, is not a good use of resources. The lessons of war are often earned with the spilled blood of your own men. If the leadership of the FSA is paying attention to their lines, they should realize they need the anti-tank weapons targeting armored vehicles. Unfortunately for the FSA, their leadership doesn’t get it yet.
