The Ukraine Army has begun receiving its first order of armed attack drones, which has the potential to break the trench warfare stalemate in the east.
The Bayraktar TB2 armed unmanned aerial attack vehicle was developed and manufactured by the Turkish Baykar Makina company. It is described as a medium altitude (22,500 feet), long endurance (24+ hour loiter time) attack drone. The Ukraine Army claims they have also successfully tested the system.
We have seen commercial/recreational drones used to gather intel, adjust fire, and even drop grenades on enemy forces in Ukraine. However, a military grade unmanned aircraft capable of staying on station for an entire day with a hundred plus pound precision payload is a whole new echelon of technology being introduced into the conflict.
Ukraine’s new armed attack drone probably won’t push the Russian proxies out of the embattled nation, but it certainly has the potential to shake things up and change the way the war is fought.
