Breaking reports coming from the Pentagon have indicated that one U.S. Special Operations troop was killed and two others wounded during fighting in Afghanistan’s southern Helmand province.
In another report by The Hill, it is being reported that the casualties happened in two separate instances. A third publication reported that a MEDEVAC helicopter may have been struck by mortar fire as it was unable to immediately lift off after loading up casualties for extraction. Pure speculation on my part thinks that this attack on the helicopter may have been the separate instance and the site of the additional casualty.
Fighting may have been in the vicinity of Marjah in Helmand province. U.S. and U.K. special operations troops have been burdened with directly retaking districts of the province that have fallen to the Taliban. Most of Helmand is now under Taliban control or being actively contested. The province is reportedly on the brink of collapse.
