U.S. Naval Officer Charged With Spying For China

A U.S. Naval officer has been charged with several severe counts of, or related to, spying for China. Lt. Cmdr. Edward Lina, a Taiwan-born naturalized citizen, was a signals intelligence specialist on the Navy’s Lockheed Martin EP-3E Aries II reconnaissance aircraft and had access to SECRET information, which he is accused of wrongfully and knowingly transporting to a foreign government.

Lina was quietly taken into custody eight months ago, but given the nature of the allegations, it wasn’t reported until now. Lina faces multiple counts including espionage, attempted espionage, giving false official statements, communicating defense information, prostitution, as well as adultery.
