The event took place in Shaladze on Saturday. Turkish forces responded to the breach with small arms fire, killing at least one protestor and wounding a dozen.

The protesters set vehicles and dwellings ablaze, attempting to cause as much damage as possible before the riot was contained. The Turkish government blamed the PKK, a Kurdish separatist party for inciting the protest.
